Dr. Hans von Ohain (right) was one of the many German engineers and scientists brought to America through "Project Paperclip," a government program to recruit German engineers and scientists after World War II. He served as a research engineer for the U.S. Air Force in Dayton, Ohio. Sir Frank Whittle (left) departed from Power Jets Ltd. when it was nationalized by the British government in 1946. Following a series of different positions in the aviation industry, he emigrated to the U.S. in 1976 and ended his career as the NAVAIR Research Professor at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
