Manno used ancient dying techniques and modern technology to explore the connection between humanity and the cosmos. She incorporated this quote from biologist George Wald:
“Matter has reached a point of beginning to know itself. Man is a star's way of knowing about stars.”
This object is on display in Futures In Space at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC.

This piece is one of a 12-piece series of mixed-media paintings. The series combines batik, the ancient medium of textile design, with the ultramodern technique of color xerography. The following quote is integrated into the painting at the bottom of the work: "Matter has reached a point of beginning to now itself. Man is a star's way of knowing about stars."
