Physical Description

An air rescue August 21,1917. After a fight with five German Albatross planes, Hammann landed and took Ludlow on board, and after sinking Ludlow's plane, returned to Porto Corsini, Italy. Both flew Macchi type Italian planes. Ensign Chalres H. Hammann, U.S.N.R.F., was awarded the Medal of Honor; Ensign George Ludlow, U.S.N.R.F. the Navy Cross.
